How does Motivation help a person in their everyday life? It is the fuel which constantly drives them to move forward to achieve their Goals.
The question is should the reinforcement come from within or be sourced from outside?
Will a systematic and disciplined life with laid-out priorities replace your need for external motivation?
or
Constantly seek external motivation like quotes, books, music or the stories of people who faced challenges, and how they overcame them.
"As we get to hear from our peer industry research work, far are not the days when neural brain implants through AI will synthesize based on your motivational deficiency and administer the right motivation tip straight into your brain for it to secrete the needed chemical. So you will stay motivated 24X7 and of course have some time for sleep. We hope not many would fall prey to this attractive deep pit."
What do many office-goers and homemakers need to know? It is perfectly normal to feel dull and discouraged. It is important, how are we going to look at it. Remember by design we need to face challenges and take decisions irrespective of whether we are happy or sad.
So what It takes to build that capability to sail through tough times?
We need to be Intrinsically driven meaning Intrinsic Motivation occurs when we act without any obvious external rewards. We simply enjoy an activity, an opportunity to explore, learn and actualize our potential.
How Intrinsic Motivation Works
When you pursue an activity for the pure enjoyment of it, you are doing so because you are intrinsically motivated. Your motivations for engaging in the behaviour arise entirely from within rather than out of a desire to gain some type of external reward, such as prizes, money, or acclaim.
These rewards will also involve creating positive emotions within the individual.
Factors which will increase intrinsic motivation:
Challenge: People are more motivated when they pursue goals with personal meaning and when attaining the goal is possible but not necessarily certain. These goals may also relate to their self-esteem when performance feedback is available.
Control: People want control over themselves and their environments and want to determine what they pursue.
Cooperation and competition: Intrinsic motivation can be increased in situations where people gain satisfaction from helping others.
Curiosity: Internal motivation is increased when something in the physical environment grabs the individual's attention (sensory curiosity). It also occurs when something about the activity stimulates the person to want to learn more (cognitive curiosity).
Recognition: People enjoy having their accomplishments recognized by others, which can increase internal motivation.
How do we increase intrinsic motivation, and reduce the undermining effect of extrinsic rewards?
1. Find ways of doing our work, our way. The more autonomy we have, the more likely we will be to engage in the activity.
2. Set mastery goals. Mastery goals - goals based around learning, gaining skills, or improving in a particular area - are intrinsically motivating.
3. Do meaningful work. Doing work that is meaningful to us, that is, work that is based on our values (the things most important to us at the deepest level), is perhaps the biggest leverage we have for increasing our motivation.
